Elkader Register, Thur., 13 May 1886. Garnavillo column.

Died on Wednesday morning, May 05, of epilepsy, Mr. Otto Brumm. The sudden death of Mr. Brumm has appalled his many friends who only a few hours before had seen him in apparent health. On Monday morning he rose at an early hour, and while on the street, he suddenly dropped. He was immediately conveyed to his house and notwithstanding the solicitous care of his family, and the best of medical treatment, he never rallied, and death finally ended his sufferings. Mr. Brumm had been in rather delicate health since the summer of 1884, when, while attending the soldiers' reunion at Dubuque, he was prostrated by a severe sunstroke, from the effects of which he has since suffered. Mr. Brumm was born in Jefferson township in this county, May 15th, 1854, and was therefore nearly 32 years of age. In February 1878, he was married to Miss Bertha Sigg, the fruits of which union were two children, who mourn the death of a loving father. Otto Brumm was a man who never intentionally wronged anyone. Strictly honest in all his dealings with his fellowmen, he expected the same from them. And although he was often imposed upon by persons who took advantage of his goodness of heart, he never lost his faith in man; and was ever ready to stretch a helping hand to a distressed brother.

His remains were carried to their last resting place by the A.O.U.W., of which order he was a worthy member. A large concourse of friends and relatives followed his body. Rev. F. Sommerlad preached an eloquent sermon at the church and Fidelity Lodge, No. 133, of this place, assisted by brothers from Bismark Lodge, Clayton Lodge and Guttenberg Lodge, conducted the ceremonies at the grave. May he rest in peace.
