Mrs. George Nugent died at her home here at 3:10 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 1831, from a heart attack following a lingering illness.
Amanda Bertha (Rieckoff) Nugent was born, November 06, 1882, in Read township, this county, the daughter of August and Dorthea Rieckoff and thus at the time of her death had reached the age of 48 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Deceased received her early education in the Erin school in Read township and on August 01st, 1903, was united in marriage at Ottumwa, Iowa, with George A. Nugent. To this union five children were born, Clarence, Dorothe, Francis, James and Josephine, four of whom together with the husband, survive, Clarence at Guttenberg, Dorthe (Mrs. Al. Bergman) at McGregor, and Francis and Josephine at home. Two grandchildren, Kenneth and Bobby Bergman also mourn the passing of their grandmother. Besides these the deceased is survived by five sisters, namely, Mrs. Wm. Baade, Mrs. Aug Mahnke and Mrs. Ruby Kuhse, all of Farmersburg; Mrs. Aug. Buchheim of Humbolt, S.D., and Mrs. Otto Buchheim and Mrs. Wm. Staack, of Elkader.
From the time of her marriage until 1918 deceased lived in Ottumwa, since which time she and her family have lived here in Elkader. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church from which she was buried last Saturday morning at 9:30, the Rev. Father J. P. Taken officiating. Interment was made in the St. Joseph's cemetery.
