Clayton County Register, Thur., 19 Mar. 1931.
It has pleased God to call from time into eternity on March 9th about midnight, Mrs. Marie Schievelbein, nee Heiden. On October 02, 1863, she was born in Garnavillo, but soon her parents left that place and moved to Clayton Center, 1865. Here the departed spent her childhood and was confirmed at Zion's Lutheran church. In 1890, on February 18, she was united into the bonds of matrimony to Mr. Albert Schievelbein. God blessed this union with six children, but three of them died in early childhood, Elmer and Harvey were stricken by an epidemic. Twenty-six years Mrs. Schievelbein lived together with her husband, who preceded her in death fifteen years ago on March 10, 1916. Most of her time the deceased spent at Clayton Centre, 55 years. She was well known and well liked by all her friends and relatives. As a member of the Ladies Aid of Zion's church she served this organization 18 years as an officer. Later she followed her sons to their farm, keeping house and extending to them her full share of motherly love. The last years she remained with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Oelke, at Farmersburg, in whose home she departed.
Her life was full of trouble and hard work, yet never she lost her good humor. Since ten years asthma and heart trouble often befell her but her strong nature gained always the victory. January 25th, after a severe attack of sickness, she celebrated with her sons the Lord's Supper. Quiet and peaceful was her end. May she rest in peace! The whole lifetime she spent was 67 years, five months and eight days.
Those mourning are: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schievelbein, nee Heuer, and Glenda and Lendall; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Oelke, nee Schievelbein, and Fern and Ilo Mae, and Arno Schievelbein.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon, March 12, Rev. Berthold F. K. Korte officiating. Sorrowing friends and relatives attended in great number the funeral and showed their sympathy to those mourning the departed. The burial was made in the old cemetery of Zion Lutheran Church at Clayton Centre.
