Mrs. Mary Foran died here in her home on lower Front Street, Friday, June 27th, at 3:45 p.m., at the age of seventy-seven years, eleven months and eleven days.
Mrs. Foran had been an invalid for forty years but her death was sudden, caused by an acute heart attack, followed by a hemorrhage.
Deceased was the eldest daughter of Patrick and Sarah Connell and was born in Read township, this county, July 16, 1852. She was the last one of this family to depart this life.
February 06, 1877, she was united in the holy bonds of wedlock to James Foran, of Highland township, here in Elkader, with the Rev. Father J. J. Quigley officiating. Her husband preceded her in death twenty-five years ago. Following his death she remained on the farm for two years with her family, after which she moved to Elkader, which has since been her home.
Mrs. Foran is survived by eight children and ten grandchildren: Mrs. W. C. Monlux, of Milwaukee; Joseph J. and Edward T., of Minneapolis; James W. of Read township, Francis X. of Estherville; Patrick C. of Milwaukee; Matt D., of El Reno, Oklahoma, and Agnes C., who has been a continual companion and care-taker of her mother during the years of her ailment.
Mrs. Foran was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church here, where funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30, the Rev. Father J. P. Taken officiating. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery. All of the children were in attendance at the funeral and the six sons were the casket bearers.
Relatives and friends from out-of-town, who were in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Edward Connell and Mr. and Mrs. Jack McAlhaney, of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald West of Osage, Mrs. M. J. Fitzpatrick, of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Glennon, of Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. John McLaughlin of McGregor.
