Clayton County Register, Thur., 12 June 1930.
Christian Brabandt was born near Osterburg, Germany, Sept 02, 1844, and departed this life June 01, 1930, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 29 days. In the year 1873 he was united in marriage to Louisa Preeche, who preceded him in death five years ago. To this union were born four children, Fred and Otto of Chicago, Mrs. Wiliam Sprecher of Lanark, Ill., and Mrs. R. W. Duff of Volga, all of whom survive him. Seven grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Fred Preuss of Volga, also survive him. In 1885, with his wife and two sons he came to America and took up work as shoemaker in Volga, which he continued until his retirement in 1915. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and his affection for his family was most evident. Mr. Brabandt was a good citizen, a kind neighbor and a genial friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Since an accident several months ago when he fell off a chair in his home here, he has been tenderly cared for in the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. W. Duff and family, but in spite of everything that was done for him he quietly passed into eternal sleep Sunday afternoon. Short services were held at the R. W. Duff home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. R. Brown of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Sympathy is extended to the sorrowing relatives.
