Anna Mary Olliver, nee Bragaw, was born July 12, 1864, in the place now known as Nashua, Iowa. Died August 5, 1916 at her home in Monona, Iowa, aged 52 years and 24 days.
In her 20th year, on December 27th, 1884, she was united in marriage with Edward Wesley Olliver at Elkader. From this union were born seven girls, all of whom survive. They are Elva, now Mrs. Elzer Grossman of Clermont; Zelia, now Mrs. Ephraim Johnson of McGregor; Grace, now Mrs. Joseph Riesselman of McGregor; Gloyette, now Mrs. Edgar Whitehouse of Boone, Iowa, De Etta, Orella and Aveyl who are at home.
Mrs. Olliver was ill four weeks in bed before the end came. The nature of her disease could not be definitely determined, but the very best medical and other attention was given her. During her illness Mrs. Olliver's mind reverted in loving affection to brothers and sisters and her own children whom she loved dearly. Although the loved ones were deeply moved because of her illness, yet it was a source of genuine relief to them to know she was patient and resigned to the will of God. While upon her bed of affliction she found much comfort in quoting Scriptures and singing her favorite hymns.
One of her last remarks to her children manifested her perfect trust in God, for she admonished them to so live as not to be afraid nor ashamed to die.
In her home Mrs. Olliver was of a genial, contented disposition, and had the respect and confidence of all who knew her. She will be sadly missed, yet her husband and children are resigned to the same faith of the mother that God doeth all things well.
Besides the husband and children, 3 brothers and 2 sisters survive, Roy McMullen, Rockwell, Iowa; Eldon McMullen, Rockford, Iowa; C.S. Becker, Mason City; Mrs. Henry Hanzen, Hutchison, Kansas; Mrs. John Hillis, Soldier Grove, Wis.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral was conducted from the home, Rev. Mr. Bird and Mr. Linn officiating. Interment at McGregor.
