Another pioneer resident of Clayton County, Iowa, Mrs. Margaretha Baumeister died at the home of her son-in-law, Peter N. Peterson, in Wagner township, early Sunday morning, August 8th, 1920, at the ripe old age of 91 years, 2 months and 18 days.
Margaretha Ziegler was born May 5, 1829, almost a century ago, in Germany. Her childhood days and days of her youth were spent in the land of her birth. After coming to this country, she was at first employed in New York for some years, later she resumed her journey westward and located at Garnavillo, Iowa, where in the year 1854 she was united in marriage with Christian Baumeister. Later the couple moved to Wagner township which was their home for the remainder of their lives. The husband died on June 20, 1914. Of the eleven children that were born to them, nine are still living to mourn the loss of the mother: Christian and John of Des Moines, Iowa, George, Karl, Jacobana, Mrs. Anna Fick, of Hartley, Iowa; William of Spencer, Iowa; Mrs. Margarette Olson and Mrs. Mary Peterson of Wagner township. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Brideman, Guttenberg, Iowa, Thirty-seven grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, August 10th, at the U.B. Church in Wagner township conducted by Rev. Franke. Interment was made in the cemetery near the church.
