Elkader Register, Thur., 08 July 1920.

Elizabeth Johnson was born in Clayton County Iowa, on September 29th, 1876, and died in Elkader June 27, 1920. She spent her early life in this neighborhood. Later she was employed in a capacity that gave her opportunity to travel in many parts of the world and become familiar with foreign life and countries. In this way she met with varied experiences and extended her education. Among the interesting places she visited were the Hawaiian Islands where she was employed for some time. She returned to her father who still lives in Volga some time ago and on the 5th of December, 1916, was married to J. H. Latham, who with her father, Daniel Johnson, survive her.

Mrs. Latham was a woman who was very much devoted to her friends, though on account of her heath she was confined closely to her home. She was no less interested in their welfare and sympathetic with them in their lives. When they came to her, into her home she showed that cordiality of spirit and a pleasure that was almost childlike in its expression. It is her close friends to whom she opened her heart and told them about her life's experience and desire for Christian help and comfort.

She was kind in her relation toward her husband, and ever thoughtful wondering in what way she might help and make life pleasant for him. We who knew were pleased at the happy relation and hoped it might continue. Nevertheless God has ordered it otherwise.

During last winter, Mrs. Latham was taken sick with influenza from the effect of which she never fully recovered. Weak as she was her system was unable to overcome other conditions that finally brought her to an end.

The funeral was held Wednesday. Rev. W. H. Smith assisted by Rev. Kosack conducted the funeral services. She was laid to rest in Hill Crest Cemetery. Her husband and aged father have the sympathy of all.
