Register and Argus, 23 Dec. 1915. Monona column.
Elizabeth Sutter was born at Milon, Ind., June 10th, 1838, of Swiss parentage, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Sutter. In 1844 the family caught the spirit of the times and moved west, coming to Iowa and settling in Franklin township, Allamakee County. Thus she must be classed with the "old settlers" as she had lived in this community since time before most of those here today were born. She was familiar with the privations and hardships of a pioneer life. Their lot was not easy, but they made the most of their opportunities, from which they wrested considerable happiness and some profit. Among the associates of her maidenhood was John Sebastian Rupp, whom she married March 24th, 1857. Her husband died 24 years ago. They had two children, one who died in infancy and John Quinton, residing in Monona, and at whose home the aged mother passed away on the afternoon of December 9th, 1915, after a brief illness. She leaves beside her son, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter, one brother, John Sutter, residing in Monona, and many other distant relatives. The funeral services were held from the Methodist Church, Sunday, December 12th, and burial made in the Monona cemetery.
