Mrs. Patrick Keenan died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. A. Nicklaus, at Elgin, Iowa, Friday, October 15th, 1915, the 77th anniversary of her birth.
Mary Cathrine Corley was born at Montreal, Canada, October 15th, 1838, and grew to womanhood in that city. In 1854 she was married to Patrick Keenan in Montreal, and they came to Dubuque that same year.
In 1858 they moved to Elkader where she lived until 1886. Mr. Keenan died October 21st, 1876.
Mrs. Keenan was the mother of nine children, five of whom died in childhood. The survivors are: Mrs. O. H. Reichart, of Chicago; C. P. Keenan, of Sheldon, Iowa; Mrs. M. A. Nicklaus, of Elgin, Iowa; and Mrs. E. D. Alexander, of Stayton, Ore. One brother, J. A. Corley, and one sister, Miss Margaret Corley, are still living at Montreal.
The funeral services were held at Elgin, Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Graham, and the remains were brought to Elkader for burial beside her husband and children in the family lot in the East Side cemetery.
