Mary Steen was born in Clayton County, Iowa, November 3rd, 1862. On May 10th, 1885, at the age of 23 years, she was united in marriage with George Kopp. Four children were born to them, two boys and two girls: Hubert, Lenora, Elsa and Freddie. For some years Mrs. Kopp suffered more or less from a complication of diseases. Everything possible was done to relieve her, and as a last resort it was thought that an operation would bring the hoped-for result. She was taken to the Moran Hospital where an operation was performed on Friday, September 10th. All the days since, she was in a precarious condition, and the chances for recovery of the beloved wife and mother became less.

On Tuesday, September 14th, at 5:30 o'clock in the morning, she passed away at the age of 52 years, 10 months and 11 days.

Deceased is mourned by her husband, George Kopp, two sons and two daughters, previously named: three brothers: Jacob W. Steen and John F. Steen, of Elkader, and Martin Steen, of Hopkinton, Iowa, and other relatives and many friends. Two sisters, Dora and Lizzie, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held today at 11:30 a.m., from the home and 1 o'clock from the Congregational Church. Rev. C. H. Franke and Rev. Isaac Cassel officiating. They were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives, neighbors and friends and the remains were laid at rest in the East Side cemetery.
