Clayton County Register, 28 Oct. 1885.

Last week Patrick Gareghty of this city was called to the beside of his mother, who lay at the point of death and breathed her last Sunday, Oct. 25th at 9 o'clock p.m.

Catherine Garegthy was born in West Meath county, Ireland, in the year 1801, where her early life was spent; she was married in 1832, and reared a family of five boys and two girls, four of whom are still living to mourn her death. She came to Clayton County with her husband Oct. 28th, 1851, and settled upon the farm of 160 acres, in Volga township where she lived until her death. The funeral services were held at Garnavillo, Tuesday at 10 o'clock a.m.

(Note: There are many spellings possible of the surname, two of which were used in the article as shown. The correct surname spelling, as on her gravestone is GARAGHTY
