Elkader Register, 13 May 1885. From the Dubuque Herald, undated.
Mr. John G. Kiesel, the venerable father of George W. Kiesel, died at the residence of the latter Saturday noon, May 9th, of a complication of diseases incident to old age. He had been failing for some time past and was brought to this city from McGregor about six weeks ago in the hopes that the watchful care of his son and daughter, (Mrs. Karberg.) might prolong his life, but without avail. Deceased was at one time engaged in mercantile business at Guttenberg, and many of our older business men remember Mr. Kiesel as an honorable and prosperous merchant. He leaves a widow in feeble health. His remains were taken to McGregor last Saturday evening for interment. - Dubuque Herald.
