Elkader Register, Thur., 30 Sept. 1880.
On Monday morning a young son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Fuller, of this township, left the house of his parents in Pony Hollow, to play. He not returning after a long time, his mother commenced search for him, but not finding him spread the alarm, and soon a number of the neighbors turned out to search, which resulted in their tracing him to the edge of the creek, on the banks of which his hat, a straw one, was afterwards found. Parties immediately commenced to drag the creek, but as we go to press the body had not been found, and it is hoped that he may have strayed off somewhere and is not in the creek. His parents are well nigh distracted over his mysterious disappearance, and mourn for him as dead.
Later: Since going to press the body of the boy was found in the Pony creek, near the residence of Peter Kill. The funeral occurred at this place at 10:30 o'clock, this morning, and was attended by a large number of friends and relatives.

Notes added by S. Ferrall:
I believe there is reason to believe the child was named Daniel, for the following reasons:- There is a gravestone in East Side cemetery for Albert Mitchell & Daniel Mitchell - neither include a date. Also on that gravestone is Daniel B. Fuller 1877-1878. The stone is much newer than one that would have been erected in 1878 - it is possible that the Fuller child who drowned in 1880 was Daniel Fuller and the stone has an incorrect DOD.
- The 1880 U.S. census, Boardman twp. enumerated 3 year old Daniel B. Fuller in the household of Christopher & Mary E. Fuller ages 30 & 21y. Also Eva, age 2.
- A family tree on ancestry for Christopher C. & Mary (Mitchell) Fuller indicates Daniel was their son and Albert & Daniel Mitchell were Mary's brothers
- Researchers should independently confirm that this obituary is for Daniel B. Fuller
