Mary J. Wallace, born of Scotch parents, Oct. 17, 1832, died Aug. 26, 1896.
Deceased came with her parents to this country at the age of eight, and lived in New York and Jersey City till the summer of 1858, when she came to Iowa.
Sept. 23, 1858, she was married to Robt. Gemmill and seven children were born of this union, four of whom still live and sorrow for a mother who was loved and respected as only mothers are.
In 1877 they moved here from Monona, and since that time this has been their home.
For several weeks deceased has been suffering from stomach trouble and all that care and medical aid could do was without avail. Rev. C.A. Marshall officiated at the funeral Friday afternoon, and many friends were present to show respect for the dead and sympathy for the living.
The mourning ones are the husband, Mr. Rob. Gemmill and the sons, John W. and Will A., who are among our most highly esteemed citizens. Mrs. Hall resides in Manchester and Miss Mary Gemmill is established in Elkader.
