At the family residence in Cox Creek twp., near Mederville on Saturday, August 1st, 1896, occurred the death of Mrs. Norman I. Scovel in the 41st year of her age. Flora A. Bartholomew was born July 1, 1855, at Bengal, Mich. In 1860, at the age of five years she came to Clayton County, Iowa. On May 4th, 1872, she was united in marriage to Norman I. Scovel. To them nine children were born, four girls and five boys, of which eight children with her husband are left to mourn her death, one daughter having preceded her to that better land. She also leaves an aged mother, three sisters and one brother, besides many friends and relatives. Flora A. Scovel was a kind and loving wife and mother, always looking to the well being of her family. In June 1893 she gave her care and keeping into the hands of her Lord, since which time she has lived a devoted Christian life.
The funeral was held on Monday morning last at ten o'clock, and her remains laid tenderly to rest in the cemetery at Mederville.
