EZRA W. STEWART.
At the residence of his son-in-law, R. E. Price, which had been his home for the past twenty-four years, on Monday evening, April 6th, 1896, E. W. (Note: The following is condensed from a newspaper columns-long account of his life.)
In Stockbridge, Madison County, N.Y., Sept. 1_, 1813, he was born, Ezra W. Stewart. He sought a home in Ohio about 1834, and there, on July 2, 1839, he was married to Laura Phinney. Three children were born to them; Orren P., lately died at Monte Vista, Colorado, Mrs. A. M. Wing, of Wells, Minn., and Mrs. S. F. Price, of Elkader, Iowa. After nine years of Ohio life, the emigration wave carried him to Wis., and in 1853 to Iowa, settling in Highland twp., Clayton County. About this time the Colorado gold fields offered an opportunity for advancement and there he went, to return four years later to Elkader. His wife died in 1872, since which time his home has been with his daughter, Mrs. Price.
(WPA records indicate his burial in the Elkader cemetery.)
