Mrs. C. Hempel died at her home one mile south of town on Sunday at 10 o'clock a.m. The funeral takes place at the house on Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. Chas. Hempel died at her home in Giard twp., Sunday, March 01, 1896, after an illness of several months.
She was born at Friedland, Germany, Aug. 24th, 1831, and came to this country in 1852. In 1853 she (Dorathea Nellman) was united in marriage to Chas. Hempel in Erie County, N.Y. In 1854 they came to Iowa and settled in Giard twp.
She was a consistent member of the German Evangelical church, and her funeral service was conducted by Rev. Best, who had baptized her years ago.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, being conducted by Rev. Best assisted by Rev. Schlung, the burial being in the Giard cemetery. Besides the bereaved husband, seven children, three sons and four daughters, survive to mourn her departure.
