Elkader Register, Fri., 29 Nov. 1895.

About three weeks since Aug. Borman went to Davenport in hopes of securing relief for his failing health and on Saturday last a letter received stated that he appeared to be improving, but on Monday forenoon a telegram announced the painful intelligence that he had passed away. About four years ago he had an attack of the grippe from the effects of which he never recovered. He was born in Eberholzan, Hanover, Germany, March 13, 1840, and came to this country in 1852, with his parents, George and Johanne Borman, locating in Boardman twp. In 1860, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Kottman and to them were born five children, three of whom, Mrs. Peter Schumaker, of this place, Mrs. John P. Eckart, of Guttenberg, and Aug. Borman, Jr., with the wife and a brother in Kansas, survive. Aug. Borman worked on the farm until 1869 when he located in Elkader. In 18_2 he was elected Sheriff and served two terms, filling the position economically and satisfactorily. To his family he was kind and indulgent, and as a citizen and neighbor his place will be hard to fill. No one ever appealed to him for charity and went away empty handed. Plain and unassuming, no one thought of calling him anything but "Gus". He will be mourned and missed not only by his family, but by a host of friends who knew and respected his worth. With these we extend our sympathy to the bereaved family.

The funeral Thursday afternoon was largely attended, the church being unable to hold those present. The religious services were conducted by Rev. Father Seifert assisted by Rev. Fisk, of the Congregational church. The choir and the Gesang Verein assisted with vocal music. The procession lead by the K. of P. band, with the Elkader Lodge of Odd Fellows, Bismark lodge, No. 110, and Elkader lodge, No. 44, A.O.U.W. and visiting brothers then proceeded to the cemetery where the burial services of the Odd Fellows was held. Among the floral decorations were a handsome anchor and the three links of the Odd Fellows. Another friend gone, may he rest in peace.
