Elkader Register, Thur., 18 May 1893.

On Saturday last after a lingering illness, the result of la grippe, occurred the death of Patrick Welch, at his late residence in Boardman twp., in the 70th year of his age. Mr. Welch was born in County Limerick, Ireland, in 1823, and came to this country in 1850, and to Iowa in 1858, and located in this township. In 1864 he was united by marriage to Mary Doran, who with five grown up sons and daughters survive him. The deceased was an industrious, honest citizen, respected and honored by all who knew him. As an affectionate husband and a kind and considerate father, his death is sincerely mourned by the family and by his many friends. While Mr. Welch was not what the world calls wealthy, yet he leaves his family in comfortable circumstances so that they by following his habits of industry may provide for themselves. His life's work is done, may he rest in peace.

The funeral took place Monday forenoon, the remains being deposited in the Catholic cemetery at this place, Rev. Father Reilly officiating. The funeral was attended by a number of sorrowing friends and neighbors.
