Elkader Register, Thur., 27 Apr. 1893.

By the death of John Engel, on Friday, April 21st, the county loses another old settler. He was taken suddenly with apoplexy. The deceased was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, in 1827, and settled in Read twp., in 1856. He leaves a family consisting of a wife and seven children. Te funeral took place at Clayton Centre on Sunday afternoon, Rev. Father Seifert officiating.
