Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Feb. 1893. Clayton column.
Saturday afternoon Brakeman Mike Kelleher informed our section foreman that there was a body of a man lying near the track at the rock cut. After getting permission from the coroner our authorities brought him to town. The coroner arrived in the evening, and from a letter found on his person it was discovered that his name was Craig, that his home was near Prairie du Chien. He had been to Illinois visiting a son, and the letter had been given him to send back to the son when he reached home. The old man appeared to be about 87. Coroner Kriebs says the man came to his death by freezing. His remains were buried in our cemetery, Sunday.
