Elkader Register, Thur., 8 Mar. 1894.
Friday last a telegram announced that James W. Oglesbee, son of H. H. Oglesbee, formerly of Elkader, had died that day at Independence. Several weeks since the young man, while practicing in a gymnasium, fell in such a manner as to practically break his neck, as has been discovered since his death. He had lingered perfectly conscious until Friday last, when the end came suddenly.
"Jimmie" as he was called by his playmates, was born at Elkader Aug. 31, 1875, and was a bright, good hearted young man, and was maintaining a high position among his fellow students in the Independence High School, from which he was about to graduate. Although he had lost his mother in early years, yet he was tenderly cared for and loved by the present Mrs. Oglesbee, to whom with affection, he turned for care in his last days of suffering and helplessness.
His remains were brought to Elkader on Saturday and deposited by the side of those of his moter, who preceded him to the other shore.
The sympathy of all goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Oglesbee in their deep grief.
