Elkader Argus, Wednesday morning, March 7, 1894
On last Friday at the home of her son-in-law John Stence occurred the death of Mrs. Ellen Brazel, widow of Martin Brazel, who died nine years ago this month.
Mrs. Brazel was born in Ireland as near as can be learned about one hundred years ago. Her and her husband were among the early settlers of this county, living for a long time in Farmersberg township, afterwards moved to Cox Creek township, where they lived until the death of Mr. Brazel, since which time she has lived with her daughter, Mrs. John Stence, where she passed peacefully to her reward.
For a number of months she has been confined to her bed with no particular ailment except old age. For some time prior to her death she had been very deaf until the day before she died, when she regained her hearing and was again able to converse with her friends.
Mrs. Brazel was a noble specimen of her race and a devoted christian. Her funeral took place yesterday from the Catholic church of which she had been a member.
