Elkader Register, Thur. 18 June 1891.

On Sunday morning, June 14th, 1891. occurred the death of Mary, wife of Fritz Kruse, of this place, aged 27 years.

Deceased had a severe attack of la grippe during the early part of April, which developed into quick consumption, causing her death. Mary Kruse, nee Backes was born in Jefferson township in this county, and resided there until her marriage to Mr. Kruse, when they took up a residence in Elkader. A husband and three small children, besides numerous friends are left to mourn the death of a kind mother and loving wife. The funeral took place on Tuesday and was largely attended by friends and relatives. Rev. F. W. Seifert preached the funeral sermon after which her remains were laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.
