Elkader Register, Thur., 11 June 1891.

On Friday last, June 5th, this community was startled by the announcement of the sudden death of Mrs. John F. Meyer, of this township. Mrs. Meyer had been in her ordinary health, and was eating dinner when she complained of her head and rapidly growing worse breathed her last in about two hours. Her death was the result of an attack of apoplexy of the brain.

The deceased, Maria Meyer, was a daughter of F. Peick, of Littleport, and was born at Baltimore, Md., March 8, 1850, coming to Clayton county in 1856 with her parents, she was married to John F. Meyer in April, 1869, to whom she bore eight children, six of whom are left to mourn the loss of a mother's love.

The funeral occurred at Elkader on Sunday afternoon, Rev. F. W. Seifert officiating, the procession being one of the largest seen for many years. The remains were laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.

The afflicted family have the sympathy of their many friends in this great burden that has been laid upon them.
