Elkader Register, Thur., 29 Jan. 1891. Guttenberg column.

Last Week Wednesday morning the news of the accidental death of Henry Aulwes, Jr., spread rapidly over the city. Henry, aged 21 years, was the oldest son of Henry and Mary Aulwes, living just beyond the city limits in a northwesterly direction. A little after midnight his body was found alongside the railroad track, immediately north of the Hayden street crossing, half a mile north of the depot. The coroner was notified, and upon his arrival the body was removed to the house of his grandparents near by, where Coroner Kriebs, assisted by Dr. Duffin, made a careful examination before a jury. With all the visible evidence of the surroundings impressed on their minds, and information gathered from witnesses, the jury rendered a verdict of killed while trying to board a train in motion. The doctors stated that the nature of the fractured skull was sufficient to cause instant death. On Friday afternoon Rev. J. Janseg held the funeral services at the German Lutheran church, from whence relatives and friends escorted the remains to the cemetery.
