Elkader Register, Thur., 20 Dec. 1923. Strawberry Point column.
Bessie Dunning Huene, daughter of Theodore and Belle M. Dunning, was born in Strawberry Point, Iowa, June 26, 1883. Her girlhood was spent in her parent's home in Strawberry Point, where she graduated from the public schools and later she pursued her studies especially in music at Cornell College at Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She was married Oct. 3rd, 1906, to Dr. Harry J. Huene of Manchester, Iowa, and together they began life in the west locating at Forsythe, Montana, which has been their home, and an unusually happy one, for seventeen years. Dr. Huene was in service overseas in the World War achieving rank of Major but on his return resumed the practice of his profession in Forsythe, where among their many friends he and Mrs. Huene held an enviable place. Mrs. Huene was a member of the Order of Easter Stars and of the Rebecca Lodge and took a active part in the social life of the community where the charm of her gracious personality won the many choice friendships. "Everybody liked her she was always so good to everyone" was the spontaneous comment of one who had known her all her life. After only a weeks illness in the hospital at Billings, Montana, Mrs. Huene's death on December 21, 1923, was a surprise and shock to her friends who had not known the serious state of her health. Beside her husband, Dr. Huene, she leaves her mother, Mrs. Belle Dunning, and a brother, William Dunning, both of Long Beach, California, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Sheldon, of Lamont, Iowa. Her father preceded her in death fourteen years ago. To these who were nearest to her, her many friends of the old home of her girlhood and the later one of her married life, extend them sincere and loving sympathy. Funeral services were conducted at the Smith home and the Congregational church Sunday afternoon, Dec. 16th, by the Rev. Wm. W. Maxwell. Interment was afterwards made in the local cemetery.
