Elkader Register, Thur., 18 Oct. 1923.
Mrs. Elizabeth Jungblut, nee Bertram, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Gusta, at Elkader, Iowa, on Tuesday, October 16th, 1923, at one o'clock in the morning, at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 26 days.
Mrs. Jungblut was born February 20th, 1847, in Gohlen, Mecklenberg Schwerin, Germany. On November 11th, 1874, she was married to Henry Jungblut. A year later the couple came to America, spending the Christmas Holiday in Chicago and arriving at Clayton Center, Iowa, the following day. This was their home for about nine years, after which they moved on a farm in Boardman township. In 1904 they made Elkader their home. After the death of her husband, which occured on May 20th, 1916, the mother lived with her children.
A few years ago she underwent a serious operation, from which she recovered in a remarkable short time, considering her advanced years. Again she enjoyed comparatively good health until on Thursday, Sept. 27th, she was suddenly taken sick. From then on she failed visibly. Everything was done to make her last days as comfortable as possible by children, neighbors and friends.
She was the mother of eight children, of which three preceded her in death in infancy. Those remaining to mourn the departure of a loving mother are; William, of Guttenberg, Iowa; Henry, Fred, John, and Mrs. Anna Gusta, all of Elkader. She also leaves eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, other relatives and a host of old-time friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at the house and the Evangelical church, with Rev. Franke officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
