Elkader Register, Thur., 18 Oct. 1923. Strawberry Point column.
The death of Alex Walters occurred Sunday evening after a lingering illness. He had pneumonia last winter and was given the best of care but did not gain very fast. He went to Dubuque twice to consult specialists but got no relief and returned home the last time only about two weeks ago and since then has been confined to his bed. He was conscious of the fact that the time of his departure was almost at hand and to this end he from time to time called his wife and children about his side and gave them good wholesome instructions to the future. while his death was not so much unexpected to the family, yet it came as a great blow to his many friends, who with bowed heads, can only feel our loss is Heaven's gain and with contrite hearts can say "Not Ours; but Thy Will be Done." Besides his heart broken wife he leaves two daughters and three sons: Mrs. Mike Hennessey of Greeley; Mrs. Bert Wathen of Elkport; William and Ray at home, and a son in Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held Wednesday.
