Dorothy Catherine Dinan, oldest daughter of Mrs. J. J. Dinan of this place, died at Chicago, Ill., Wednesday, August 15, 1923, at St. Anthony's hospital following an operation for goiter, from which she had been suffering for the past year and a half, altho the immediate cause of her death was heart trouble due to her weakened condition.
Dorothy Dinan was born August 12, 1899, here at Elkader, where she has always lived. She was the eldest daughter of Mrs. J. J. Dinan and received her education in St. Joseph's school and in the Elkader High School and also graduated from music at St. Joseph's. Following the completion of her school work she taught school for two years and later served in the capacity of cashier and bookkeeper in Poull & Bink's department store, where she made for herself a large circle of friends, who mourn with the family.
Besides the mother, deceased leaves to mourn her loss six sisters and one brother, as follows: Cecil, Rosali, Genevieve, Monica, Mary and MaDonna, and Meder.
Funeral services were held last Friday morning, Aug. 17, at 10:00 o'clock from St. Joseph's church with Rev. J. P. Taken officiating, assisted by Rev. Horsefield, of McGregor, and Rev. Heatherington, of Volga. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
The remains were brought here from Chicago by Miss Jennie Dinan and Dr. S. E. Donlon and son John, who remained for the funeral.
