Christian Esbold passed away Thursday noon, Aug. 2, 1923, at the Moline hospital after a lingering illness, aged 77 years, 6 months and 17 days.

Mr. Esbold was born January 15, 1846, in Kemnitz, Germany. He spent his boyhood in that vicinity and as a young man he moved with his parents to Riga, Russia, later returning to Germany for military service.

He was married in 1873 to Miss Eva Fri_man. This union was blessed with six children, three dying in infancy. About 36 years ago he moved with his family to America and became a citizen of this country. He was a resident of Illinois for 26 years. The last two years he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Dale Middleton, of Moline. His wife preceded him in death about eleven months. Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. Dale Middleton, of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Harry Hawley, of Rock Island, Ill., and Mrs. Fred Winch, of Littleport, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

All were present to pay their last tribute to a loved one. He also leaves one brother, Louis, of Jordan, Minn.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Franke, were held Sunday afternoon Aug. 5th, at the home of Fred Winch near Littleport. Interment was made in the Littleport cemetery.
