John Joseph Scheffert passed away Monday, April 16th, 1923, of tuberculosis at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ernest Scheffert.
John Joseph Scheffert was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest F. Scheffert and was born here in Elkader November 15, 1893, and at the time of his death had reached the age of 29 years, 5 months and 1 day.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ernest F. Scheffert, two brothers, Peter Scheffert of Waterloo and Joseph at home, three sisters, Mrs. George Ziegler of Waterloo, Mrs. Henry Losch of Boardman township, and Mrs. James Staub of Elkader.
His father preceded him in death last fall and one sister, Margaret, died two years ago.
He received his education here at Elkader and in the late years conducted a pool hall for C. C. Oehring and later was employed at Hand's pool hall. He was of a kind disposition and liked by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held this forenoon from St. Joseph's church, Rev. J. P. Taken officiating. The remains were laid to rest in St. Joseph's cemetery.
