Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 12 Dec. 1918. Farmersburg column.

The grim reaper of death swung his sickle and took a good mother from their side Saturday night. Mrs. L. W. Thompson was called to the other shore. She had been a patient sufferer for several years, but bore it all in a Christian like spirit which always made her surroundings pleasant. She was always a hard worker for the Red Cross and was always willing to help others in need. She rests now in peace from her worldly labors.

Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 19 Dec. 1918. Farmersburg column.

Retelia Thompson, daughter of Lars Thovson and his wife Johanna (nee Bergestran) was born in Wagner township Nov. 19th 1875.

She was confirmed and christened in the faith of her Savior in the Norwegian church. She was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Lars W. Thompson on the 26th [or 28th] day of March 1904 and lived with her husband and children on the old Thompson homestead until 1908 when they moved to Farmersburg, where she resided up to the time of her death.

This happy union was blessed with four daughters all surviving the mother: Blanche Lulu, 14 years of age; Joyce Vivian, 13; Lillian Ruth, 11; and Melva Rachel, seven.

Mrs. Thompson has been in poor health the last seven years, suffering from asthma. She spent one winter in Arkansas to get relief in a milder climate but all medical skill failed to give her relief. She was taken ill Nov. 29th with a cold from which complications followed and in spite of the best care she died on Dec. 7th at 6:30 a.m. being 43 years and 18 days old.

She leaves besides her husband and children one brother Nels Thovson, of Orchard, Minn; Mrs. Will Larson, St. Olaf; Emma Thovson of Farmersburg; and Lena also of this place. She was laid to rest in the Norwegian cemetery in Wagner township, Rev. Arveson of St. Olaf, officiating.
