Mrs. Ione Barnes Newton was born in Strawberry Point, Iowa, Feb. 14th, 1880, and died at Quincy, Ill., Oct. 18th, 1918. On June 30, 1901, she was united in marriage to H. E. Newton and to this union for children were born, Margery, aged 16, Jessie 14, Jim 11, and Florence 7. She leaves to mourn her loss besides husband and children, mother, four brothers and one sister: Mrs. J. C. Barnes of Lakeport, Cal., L. M. Barnes of Delhi, Iowa, R. C. Barnes of Strawberry Point, Mrs. J. R. Martin of Lakeport, Cal., Guy K. Barnes of Waterloo, Iowa, and John H. Barnes with the American Expeditionary Forces, France, and a host of relatives and friends. She was taken sick apparently with a slight cold on Friday, Oct. 11th, nothing serious developing until the following Thursday, when bronchial pneumonia set in. Physicians being unable to check the disease and she passed peacefully away Friday, Oct. 18, at 1:00 a.m. The remains were brought here Monday morning and laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery.
