Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 31 Oct. 1918. Volga column.
William Harold Jones was born in Jefferson, Ia., March 18, 1899, and died at Iowa City, Oct. 20, 1918, at the age of 19 years, 7 months and 2 days.
When he was five years old the family moved to Oelwein; there his father died in 1908. He then came to Volga with his mother and sister, Marjorie Lucile. The last seven years of his life were spent on a farm.
He graduated from Clermont high school last June, and registered last September 18th, enlisting in the S.A.T.C. at Iowa City. There he contracted influenza, followed by pneumonia. After suffering twenty days, he passed away just as the bugle sounded "Taps" Sunday evening.
Harold was a very studious and religious young man, with a firm belief that he was going to be at home with Jesus.
He leaves to mourn his death, a mother, a stepfather, two sisters, Marjorie and Maxine, one brother, James, one stepsister, Zella, and two stepbrothers, Arnold and Clarence, also many relatives and friends.
He was laid to rest by the side of his father in Hill Crest, Volga.
Harold being a bright student and a good Christian, and a member of the M.E. church in Volga, it is with sad hearts that we see this splendid young man laid at Hill Crest. Our sympathy goes out to his mother, who so faithfully cared for him.
