The funeral of Mrs. Sarah D. Sloan was held at the home Saturday afternoon at one o'clock, Rev. Wells, pastor of the M.E. church, officiating. Sarah D. Miller was born at Stockton, Chautauqua county, N.Y., Dec. 30, 1833. When a small child she moved with her parents to Fredonia, N.Y., where on Sept. 01, 1852 she was united in marriage to Alfred Sloan. In 1855 they came west but in a short time returned to Fredonia, where they lived until after the Civil War, when they came west, again locating in Strawberry Point which has since been her home. Her husband passed away March 23, 1882. For a number of years she has been in failing health and has been tenderly cared for by her son Julian. On July 09th she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Deyo, at LeClaire, where she passed away Wednesday evening at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 7 days. Thus another one of Strawberry Point's old settlers has gone to her reward. She leaves one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Geo. Deyo, of LeClaire, Iowa; Geo. Sloan, of LeGrand; Wilfred Sloan, of Lowden, and Julian Sloan, at home; and eight grandchildren, Alfred Sloan, of Marshalltown; Jesse Sloan, of Delhi; Mrs. Lynn Smith and Mrs. Al Hall, of Cresco; Mrs. I. Rogers, of Waukegan, Ill.; Mrs. Lena Hart, of Davenport; Mrs. Sarah Witte, of Wheatland; and Mrs. C. B. Kirkpatrick, of this place, and thirteen great grandchildren. The relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Deyo, of LeClaire; Mr. and Mrs. Will Sloan, of Lowden; Geo. Sloan, of LeGrande; Mrs. Lena Hart, of Davenport; Jesse Sloan, of Delhi; Mesdames L. C. Smith and A. Hall, of Cresco, and Mrs. Sarah Witte, of Davenport.
