Old Pioneer Passes Away
June 24, 1914 occurred the death of J.M. Rulon at 7 am. at the home of his oldest daughter near Garnavillo, Ia. The deceased was born in Indiana, November 13, 1834.

At the age of 13 years he came to Clayton County, Iowa, which has ever since been his home.

He has been a sincere and faithful member of the M.E. church for over 42 years, ever putting trust in his Master. Those who knew him best loved him most

He is survived by his aged wife, who is in the Hospital at Elkader, his children, Mrs. Ida Smock of Garnavillo, Iowa; W.H. Rulon of Edgewood, Iowa; and Mrs. Anna Bond of Garber, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

There was at his bedside, Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Smock and children and his only son, W.H. Rulon and wife, with whom he has made his home for the last three years. He had been visiting his daughter but three weeks when he was stricken with paralysis from which he never recovered.

He was at his death 79 years 7 months and 11 days old. He was always a loving husband and kind father.

A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is still
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon His love had given
And though the body slumbers here
The soul is safe in heaven.
