Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 07 Feb. 1918. Littleport column.

Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 30th, at 3:00 p.m., Mrs. John Warnecke passed away. Mrs. Warnecke was one of the most respected of our pioneers, an old settler of Cox Creek township and a resident of the old homestead for about 65 years. She was one of the noble women who have made the world better by having lived and her examples might be followed by many today. Mrs. Warnecke was born in Ost Friesland, in the province of Hanover, Germany, about ninety years ago. Her husband passed away about two years ago. Five children survive her, viz: John, Frank and Henry at home; Mrs. George Roeder, of Volga township, and Mrs. Adolph Krieg, of Cox Creek. One brother, George Meyer, of Motor, also survives her. The funeral was held on Friday with burial at Elkader.
