Volga was saddened when the word came that Mrs. George Linder, who came home from Finley hospital last Friday, had passed away Monday morning at her home west of town. While we knew the end was near, the news cast gloom over all. Mrs. Linder has been a sufferer for a long time.

Amelia Matilda Younkman was born at National, Iowa, on June 08, 1870, and died at her home west of Volga, on Monday at the age of 47 years, 6 months and 23 days. She was the daughter of Minnie and Henry Younkman. On Feb. 15, 1888, she was united in marriage to George Linder at National. To this union were born three children, Lawrence, residing in this city; Dola, at home, and Ada, who died in infancy. She is also survived by her mother, at Arlington, one brother, Sam, at Arlington; Mrs. Joe Oldfather, of this township; Mrs. Henry Oldfather, of near Fayette, and Miss Elsie Younkman, who is teaching at Canton, South Dakota, also one grandchild, Leroy Linder. Mrs. Linder has been a patient sufferer for four years. She has spent the most of the time for the past four years in an open cottage hoping to be benefitted by the fresh air. Everything that was possible was done for her by her husband who has shared her heavy burden as much as possible. She spent the last three months at Finley hospital, in Dubuque. During this time she has suffered unbearable at times, but through it all she has been the same kind and loving mother and wife as before. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church of which she was a devoted member. Interment was in Hill Crest cemetery, Rev. Smith officiating.
(Note: Her death was reported in the previous weeks newspaper, on Thur., 03 Jan. 1918, which also notes her death occurred the previous Monday. That and her age at death indicate her death occurred, 31 Dec. 1917.)
