Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 19 July 1917. North McGregor column.
Milton Joseph Haupt was born January 22, 1850, at Lykens Falls, Daphne Co., Pennsylvania, and died June 30, 1917, at North McGregor, Iowa. In 1866, at the age of sixteen years he came west, settling in the Western part of Iowa. On July 15, 1871, at Irvington, Iowa, he and Miss Laura Augusta Fill were united in marriage. To this union were born seven children, five of them, three boys and two girls preceded the death of their father. July 4, 1900, Mr. Haupt moved his family here from Sanborn, this place being more convenient for his work as conductor on the I. & D. division. He had been a conductor on this division of the Milwaukee road for 30 years, when on March 30, 1910, he suffered a severe stroke of apoplexy, which rendered him practically helpless. To this was added eye trouble that denied him the great blessing of seeing the brightness of life, the faces of his loved ones and friends, and the comfort of reading. The funeral services were held from the residence Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Alexander of the M.E. church delivering a splendid tribute. Those from out of town here for the funeral were: Mrs. George Hathaway, Cleveland, Ohio; Mr. John R. Fill, Marshalltown; Mrs. Grace Boyd, and daughters, Bernice and Roma, Kenman, N.D.; Mrs. Geo. Darrow, Farmersburg. Mr. Haupt was a member of many years standing in the Masonic order, and Order of Railway Conductors.
