Mrs. Marion Schroeder was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schenk and was born Aug. 9, 1844, in the town of Hohrn, Bottentin, Germany. In the same year she was baptized in the Lutheran faith and on April 17th, 1859, she was confirmed. In the year 1868 she came to America to make her home and a few days before Christmas of the same year she was married to John Frederick Schroeder, at Elyria, Ohio. The winter was spent in Ohio and the following year they emigrated to Iowa. Like most of the emigrants from Germany at that time they were in very poor circumstances and worked for some of the early pioneers. A few years later they purchased a small piece of land at York, in Delaware county. From there they moved to a larger piece of land between Strawberry Point and Edgewood, where they lived until eleven years ago, when they built a home in Dundee, Iowa, to spend the remainder of their days. Four children were born to this union, three sons, Ernest and Arthur, of Dundee, and Ferdinand, of Wadena, Iowa, and one daughter, Mrs. Martha Carrier, who preceded her mother in death in 1905. Mrs. Schroeder had been in ill health for a long time and failing to find any relief had decided to go to Rochester, Minn., and have a thorough examination. On the day of her arrival she was taken seriously ill, which later developed into pneumonia. She died at the Colonial Hospital on Sunday, June 3rd. The funeral was held in the Lutheran church at Dundee on Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock, Rev. C. Rembold officiating, after which the remains were brought here for burial. Besides the husband, three sons, four grandchildren, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Lena Alderson, of this place, to mourn her death.
