Miss Mary D. Simmons was born Feb. 6, 1843, in Madison county, N.Y., and passed away at her home here last Friday morning after a few weeks illness. She came to Iowa with her parents in 1856 and settled near Strawberry Point. May 6, 1862, she was married to A. E. Lawrence. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Fairchilds, who passed away in 1908. Mr. Lawrence died May 29, 1902. On July 15, 1905, she was united in marriage to Richard Carner, who passed away October 5, 1912. Since Mr. Carner's death she has lived alone in her usual home. She has been tenderly cared for in her declining years by her nephew, N. A. Simmons, and family. Besides a large group of acquaintances she leaves three nephews and one niece. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. C. C. Harris, pastor of the Congregational church. The remains were laid to rest in our cemetery.
