Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 10 May 1917. McGregor column.
Carl Coffman passed away at the home of his parents on May 3rd at 10:30, after a weeks illness with pneumonia. He was born Sept. 22, 1893, and was 23 years, 7 months and 7 days of age at the time of his death. He received his education in the McGregor school. He leaves a father, mother, six sisters: Carrie, Viola, Gertrude, Catherine, Isabelle and Anna, and three brothers, Louis, Raymond and Johnnie, besides many relatives and friends. He was a member of the W.O.W. society. Carl was an industrious young man and for some time has been in the employ of the Milwaukee road at North McGregor. He had a kind disposition and was liked by all who knew him. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Congregational church at 2:30, Rev. Cutler officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Grove cemetery. The floral offerings were beautiful and show the esteem in which this young man was held. The two sisters, Carrie and Viola, and an uncle, Will Becker, arrived from Dubuque, Friday night, and a cousin, Danny Trumm, of Boscobel, arrived Saturday night to attend the last sad rites.
