John Kramer was a native of Vienna, Austria, born August 29th, 1849, and came to this country in 1869, making Clayton County his destination and home.
He was employed by his brother Anton in business up to 1872, when he was taken into partnership, which was later dissolved, he entering into business for himself.
While attending a Turnfest in July, 1877, he was overcome by the heat and fell, injuring himself to such an extent as to impair his health throughout his succeeding years.
In June, 1879, he married Alice Leonard, to which union two sons were born. Later he became divorced and made his home with Anton and Louis J. Kramer up to the time of his death.
Last Sunday after a stroll down town he was stricken which left him unconscious until 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1st, when he passed away, aged 67 years, 5 months and 2 days.
He leaves two sons, Valentine and David Harry Garfield, a brother Anton and two sisters, Katherine Jaeger, of Independence, and Cecelia Haecker, of Stuttgart, Germany.
Uncle John, as he was familiarly known, was well liked in the community and enjoyed the sympathy of all.
Funeral services were held at the home, Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Cassel. Interment in the East Side cemetery.
