Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 16 Dec. 1909. Strawberry Point column.
After a long and lingering illness at ten o'clock Thursday morning, Dec. 2nd, a shadow of sorrow was cast over the home to John Kramer and family, when the angel of death took from them their loving wife and mother.
Miss Barbara Wise was born in Germany Dec. 25, 1846, coming with her parents to America in 1848 and landing near Galena, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood.
On July 7th, 1864, she was united in marriage to John Kramer, also of that place. In 1871 she moved with her husband to St. Sebald, Iowa, where they lived on a farm until 1891, when they came to Strawberry Point, which continued to be her home until her death. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband and eight children, John, George and Fred, of strawberry Point, William and Mrs. Mary Pilgrim, of Edgewood, Mrs. W. A. Donner, of Dubuque, Mrs. John Cherry, of Waterloo and Miss Elizabeth, also twenty-six grandchildren, one brother, two half-brothers and a half-sister.
She was a member of the German Lutheran church to which she was faithful till her death, also a member of the W.R.C., being held in high esteem by all.
Although her death had been expected for some time , it came as a shock to her many friends and relatives.
Funeral was held last Sunday morning from the German Lutheran church, Rev. Graf officiating. Interment was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
