David Molumby, Sr., died Tuesday morning at the home of his son-in-law, Peter Glennon, in Sperry twp., at the advanced age of about 87 years. He was a resident of Sperry township for more than fifty years and was a highly respected citizen. The funeral was held this morning.

The subject of this sketch, one of the early settlers of the county, died
March 23rd, 1909, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Glennon, near Volga
City. David Molumby was born in Kilvert, County Cork, Ireland, Dec. 4th, 1822.
He came to America May 10th, 1846. On Feb. 12th, 1850, at Boston, Mass., he
was united in marriage to Katherine O'Brien. To them were born five sons,
three of whom survive, David and John, of Madison, S.D., and Maurice, whose
residence is unknown. The other two died in infancy.Mr. and Mrs. Molumby came to Iowa in 1855 and settled on a farm in Highland
township. Eight years later the wife died.On June 30th, 1864, he married Katherine Murphy. Three children were the
fruits of this marriage, Joseph of Volga, Iowa, Mary, now Mrs. Peter Glennon,
living on the old homestead, and Arthur, of Nunda, S.D. The second wife died
April 12th, 1900.The funeral was held on Thursday last, being largely attended by relatives and
friends. A most worthy citizen has passed away to join those who have gone
before. May he rest in peace.
