Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 25 Feb. 1909. Elkport column.

Mary McMorrow Costigan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McMorrow, was born at Manor Hamilton, Ireland, on the 20th day of March, 1831, and died at the house of her son, Michael Costigan, in Elkport on the 19th day of February, 1909. She came to America with her parents in 1849 and settled at Bellefontaine, Ohio. Two years later she was united in marriage with Patrick Costigan and soon after they came to East Dubuque, and in 1858 they came to Elkport and settled on a farm just north of town where they lived until last November, when their house was destroyed by fire, since which time she was at her son Michael's. She was the mother of eight children, two of whom died in infancy. Those who are living are Anna, wife of Con Meehan, of Lawler, Iowa; John Costigan, also of Lawler, William, who lives on the home place; James, of Cresco; Mike, of Elkport, and Daniel, of Perham, Minn.

Mrs. Costigan was a noble, hard working woman, a dutiful wife and loving mother, who stood high in the community in which she lived. She had been an invalid for the past twelve years and death was a great relief to her sufferings. She was a member of the Catholic church and was buried at Elkport on Monday, Feb. 22nd, 1909, at 10:00 o'clock a.m., Rev. Father Minogue officiating. There was a very large concourse of friends who attended the funeral to pay their last respects. Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved relatives.
