Clayton County Register, Thur., 22 Nov. 1934. Volga columns.
Polly Ann Tenny, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Chapman, was born at Lafayette, Ohio, June 17, 1845, and died Nov. 17, 1934, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blanche White, with whom she made her home.
With her parents she came to Iowa when six years of age and maintained a life-long residence in this state. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death; she is the last to survive of a family of six.
On February 5, 1864, Polly Ann Chapman was married to Alpheus Tenny at Prairie du Chien Wis. They lived on the same farm east of Volga until the death of Mr. Tenny in 1907.
Three children were born to this union, all of whom are left to Mourn: Mrs. August Lee of Britt, Iowa; Mrs. Blanche White and Mrs. Thomas Conboy of Volga. There are ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who survive.
Shortly after the death of her husband, Mrs. Tenny bought a home in Volga where she lived until her health forced her to live with her daughter. Reluctantly she left her home and never lost hope of regaining her health and again resuming the responsibilities of her own home.
A member of the Methodist church, she took a deep interest in its activities and accomplishments.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Methodist church. The pastor, Rev. A. B. Chamberlin officiated at the church and at the graveside. Interment was made in Hill Crest cemetery.
The pall bearers were: Fred Rinkert, Joe Chapman, James Bergan, Ernest Smith, E. C. Becker and Albert Duff.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. S. L. White and Mrs. Clara White of Oelwein; Mrs. A. W. Lee of Britt; Gene O'Brien of Cedar Falls; Miss Imogene Lee of Cedar Rapids.
