This community learned with deep regret Tuesday of the death of Mrs. Gerhard Kaiser. The affliction is doubly sad for the children, because it is only three months since they experienced the bereavement of their father.
(Note: WPA records indicate Anna Maria Kaiser, 1849 - 13 Nov. 1905, buried in Garnavillo cemetery.)

Seldom was this community more shocked and saddened by a death than that of Mrs. Gerhard Kaiser, which occurred last week Monday evening at 6:40.
Deceased, nee Wiegmann, was born March 19, 1849, in Westphalen, Germany. At the age of 4 years she came to this country with her parents and lived for five years in St. Louis, Mo. They took up their abode on a farm near Ceres and later near National.
April 6th, 1875, deceased was married to Gerhard Kaiser. They enjoyed a happy and prosperous wedded life on their farm two miles west of town until recent years, when sickness visited their home.
All during her life Mrs. Kaiser exercised a strong will power over her seemingly frail body and labored incessantly and with earnest pious zeal in her home and was ever ready to offer her assistance to those in need. At length her vitality seemed to be exhausted probably due largely to the care of her husband during his blindness and frequent illness. Since his recent siege of sickness and death, which occurred Aug. 10th, her health began to fail rapidly. She consulted, besides the home doctor, physicians in neighboring towns and also spent several weeks at the sanitarium at Prairie du Chien, hoping to find relief. When she returned home she was feeling much better but soon was seized with a severe attack of appendicitis.
She was thought likely to recover but it was decreed other wise. When sinking into the arm of death a heavenly serenity seemed to buoy up her spirits and even to create a smile on her pale countenance. It was a most solemn moment for those at her bedside and they found great consolation in the conviction that her sufferings are at an end and her immortal spirit has winged its flight to that bright world of bliss, where the weary pilgrim is forever at rest. A duty of resignation to a power that is beyond our control and a will that is ever directed toward our good, must uphold the seven surviving children in this most bitter trial.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in St. Peter's Lutheran church and were conducted by Rev. Bunge. A large concourse of friends followed the departed to the sacred spot, where she reposes in peace.
